What is Egg Sharing?
Egg sharing can provide an affordable solution if you need IVF or ICSI and are willing, as part of your treatment, to donate some of your surplus eggs to another woman to help her become a mother.
At the Agora Clinic, women who produce surplus eggs can donate them to women who are unable to produce any eggs of their own, so that they both have a chance of becoming pregnant.
Women who agree to donate half of their eggs (therefore reducing the number of embryos available for their own use) will receive their own treatment at a subsidised rate.
Sharing your eggs does not mean that either you or the person you share your eggs with will have a lower success rate.
Who can egg share?
To be accepted as an egg sharer, you need to be a non-smoker aged between 18 and 35 and have:
- Good general health
- No history of mental health disorders
- No history of inherited diseases
- A normal ovarian reserve with an AMH level > 15 pmol/l
N.B. It is a legal requirement for anyone donating eggs to give written consent for the use of their eggs in treatment. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time up until when the eggs are actually used for treatment.
The HFEA website also has very useful information on egg sharing.
“Sharing my eggs and being a donor has been a highlight in my IVF journey. I was lucky enough to have two beautiful babies, and also to do something very special for somebody else. I am very grateful to the Agora for making it all happen.”
