Dr Carole Gilling-Smith
CEO, Medical Director and HFEA Person Responsible
Carole is the CEO, Medical Director and founder of the Agora.
Carole is a Consultant Gynaecologist and renowned expert in fertility and reproductive medicine. She is a leading advocate for inclusive, patient-centric fertility care in the UK who is dedicated to ensuring that individuals from all backgrounds, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity, health, or financial status, have equal access to fertility services and receive the very best emotional support combined with medical expertise throughout their parenting journey. A visionary in her field, in 1999 she developed the UK's first fertility program for HIV-infected patients and continues to fight for equality in the NHS funding of fertility care.
She is an entrepreneur and innovator who has built a robust model of independent NHS and private IVF healthcare at the Agora based on a strong leadership and values ethos and an adaptive strategy to fluctuations and opportunities within the IVF industry. Beyond the clinic, Carole is a highly respected researcher and lecturer, sharing her expertise in reproductive medicine and clinical leadership both nationally and internationally.
In 2024 Carole was recognised for her achievements and awarded CEO of the Year at the Sussex Business Awards and the Agora was awarded Large Business of the Year.
Michèle Gilling-Ulph
Director of Operations & Complaints Officer
Michèle is proud to be part of the family behind the Agora and is the daughter of Medical Director Dr Carole Gilling-Smith.
As a graduate in philosophy from Southampton University, Michèle joined the team in 2018 and worked in every department before becoming the Agora’s Director of Operations in 2021.
She is guided by a deep belief in compassionate, patient-centric care, and is passionate about creating a supportive environment for all, and a tailored approach to the more complex journeys some patient’s face such as those who need an egg donor or surrogate as well as those from the LGBTQ+Q+ community. As a family-led clinic, Michèle believes it is the personal connection the Agora offers that enhances the patient experience, ensuring every individual feels valued and understood whether they be a patient or member of the team.
Striving for operational excellence, she is dedicated to continuously improving patient care and communication. Early on in her career she spent a great deal of her time listening to and speaking with our patients, understanding their journey, challenges and hopes. This is what led her to develop a number of initiatives, including developing the Agora Patient App and Patient Support Program, which both provide exceptional emotional support, community, and seamless engagement throughout the fertility journey.
Kerry Martin
Clinic Manager & PA to CEO
Surrogacy Coordinator
Kerry joined The Agora in 2019, bringing over 18 years of managerial experience in private healthcare, including counselling, psychotherapy, and cosmetic surgery.
She has since developed extensive experience in fertility care, leading the front-of-house admin team to ensure patients feel informed and supported at every step. Guided by The Agora’s ethos of inclusivity and equality, Kerry is passionate about providing compassionate care to all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or background.
As Surrogacy Coordinator, she works closely with intended parents, surrogates, and egg donors, ensuring their journeys are seamless, safe, and fulfilling.
Her ability to handle complex and sensitive enquiries with empathy and professionalism reflects the clinic’s commitment to creating positive and empowering experiences for every patient.
Victoria Wells
Director of Embryology & Eastbourne Laboratory Manager
Victoria is the Director of Embryology at the Agora, where she leads a highly skilled embryology team and ensures that the latest science-led innovations and research are seamlessly integrated into clinical laboratory practice.
She began her embryology career in 2001 and gained extensive experience working in London clinics, including the Lister Fertility Clinic, before joining the Agora team in 2022. With over 25 years in the field, Victoria has consistently demonstrated a commitment to advancing embryology and enhancing patient experiences.
A passionate and supportive leader, Victoria nurtures her team while actively contributing to the training of emerging embryologists through various programmes. She played a key role in the development of the laboratory at the Agora clinic in Eastbourne and is widely recognised for her calmness and patience. Victoria is excited to be involved in the future of the Agora and to incorporate the Agora values to guide the embryology team to deliver the highest standards of patient care.
Simone
Nursing Manager
Simone is the Nurse Manager at The Agora, where she is dedicated to delivering exceptional nursing care and ensuring every patient feels supported throughout their fertility journey.
Originally from Austria, Simone began her career in medical and rehabilitation nursing before discovering her passion for fertility care after moving to the UK in 2016. With extensive experience gained at leading clinics such as ARGC and the Lister, she brings a wealth of knowledge to her role.
Since joining The Agora in 2021, Simone has worked closely with the nursing team to continuously review and enhance patient care, fostering a compassionate and inclusive environment.
Her commitment to excellence and her collaborative approach reflect the Agora’s mission to provide the highest standard of personalised fertility care.
Anita Chau
Lab Manager & Senior Embryologist
Anita is the Laboratory Manager at The Agora, where she is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of clinical embryology to promote successful outcomes and exceptional patient care.
With a background in Human Biology and a Masters in Prenatal Genetics and Fetal Medicine, Anita has built an impressive career in embryology, including roles at IVF Hammersmith and CARE London.
Since joining The Agora in 2019 as a Senior Embryologist, Anita has worked to integrate the latest advances in research and technology into the lab’s clinical practices. As Lab Manager, she is focused on developing the embryology team through leadership, encouraging ongoing education, and advancing the clinic’s pre-genetic testing programme and other technological advancements in the laboratory.
Anita’s commitment to quality care and innovation reflects the Agora’s ethos of providing personalised, cutting-edge fertility treatment.
Dr. Cheryl Lambe
Consultant Fertility Specialist & Menopause Lead
Cheryl is a Consultant Fertility Specialist and Menopause Lead at The Agora, where she is passionate about providing holistic care to patients from all backgrounds.
With a career that spans Obstetrics, Gynaecology, General Practice, and a deep commitment to women’s health, Cheryl has developed a specialist interest in fertility and menopause.
She has worked closely with The Agora team since 2005, supporting patients through both their fertility journeys and the challenges of menopause with empathy and expertise.
Cheryl believes in the importance of treating the whole person, offering compassionate, inclusive care tailored to each individual's needs.
She is proud to be part of a team that values diversity and strives to deliver the highest standard of personalized care for every patient.

The Agora laboratory is home to the very latest scientific processes and protocols as well as the latest state-of-the-art equipment.
We recognise that the way eggs, sperm, and embryos are handled and cultured has a significant impact on their development, influencing the chances of a successful outcome.
Our approach is to combine scientific precision with human expertise to create the most natural environment in which to grow new life. Our spacious IVF laboratory is also equipped with a very high-quality air filtration system which eliminates all contaminants and common air impurities.
Our laboratory team believe passionately in meticulous attention to detail and scientific excellence to ensure every single patient has the very best chance of achieving a pregnancy.
