Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist

Jamal graduated in Medicine from King’s College Hospital in 1987 and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG). He completed his training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at King’s College and the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and was appointed Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust in 1999.

During his training in London, Jamal had the privilege of working as a Research Fellow under the guidance of Professor SL Tan, Professor S Campbell and Professor Bob Edwards (the inventor of IVF). During this time, he gained much experience in Reproductive Medicine and was able to conduct extensive research in the use of Doppler Ultrasound in Reproductive physiology including the study of polycystic ovary syndrome and was able to complete his MD thesis in this area.
He has lectured widely both locally, nationally and internationally and has published extensively in peer review journals mostly relating to the use of ultrasound in fertility assessment and polycystic ovaries.

Jamal has been practising as an NHS Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist in East Sussex for over 21 years and is an accredited laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgeon. He offers the full range of Obstetric and Gynaecological services and in particular, offers specialised services in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery including IVF. He leads the Fertility service at the Conquest Hospital, East Sussex and has the privilege of looking after his fertility patients throughout their whole pregnancy journey.

For the last 13 years, Jamal has had significant duties in medical management including leading and developing the Obstetric and Gynaecological services at East Sussex Hospital Trust. At a regional and national level, Jamal is an Examiner for the Membership examination of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG); Gynaecology Service assessor for the RCOG; Expert Witness to the General Medical Council and Independent adviser to NHS England/Improvement.

Jamal lives in East Sussex with his wife (a University Senior Lecturer) and enjoys walks in the Sussex countryside, overseas travel, reading historical books and playing tennis when weather allows, although he can no longer keep up with his son. He is delighted to be part of the team at Agora and be able to offer fertility services to patients in Sussex, especially those living in Eastbourne and Hastings.
