Educating tomorrow’s parents

The Agora feels passionately about fertility education and wants to empower every person of reproductive age to understand the choices they can make now or in the future if they wish to create a family.

Our Medical Director Carole Gilling-Smith often visits local schools to teach young people about assisted conception and modern parenting.

In 2019 the Agora invited 25 young students from a local theatre school to spend a day at the clinic exploring different issues in fertility.

This is what happened……..

Educating tomorrow’s healthcare professionals

At the Agora Clinic we offer some exciting opportunities for young people to gain valuable work experience.

Our Gap Year placement

The Agora has offered a Gap year placement since 2009 to any school leaver who is considering a career in medicine, nursing, midwifery or biological sciences.

The successful applicant works as a Nursing Administrator within our busy nursing department gaining knowledge and experience of the different treatments we offer. They rapidly become an indispensable part of the Agora team and become very skilled in communicating with and supporting our patients, assisting the more senior members of the team with procedures and coordinating some of the day to day clinic activities within the clinic.

We encourage our Gap year students to complete a project during their time with us.

Our Work Placements

Each year 6th form students from Hurstpierpoint College can apply to spend some time at the Agora on a work placement observing the different medical, scientific and nursing activities taking place at the clinic.

They shadow different team members and gain a true insight into the latest scientific advances available and learn about the issues facing couples who are struggling to conceive or embarking on a modern parenting journey.

A particular focus is placed on interactive learning and we challenge our students to really think about the intertwining of science with complex ethical and emotional issues.
